and a confession...

Dear friends, confession time. I ran away for the last few weeks… to Belize… a week in the rainforest, a week on the beach, and I planned to get so much done.

Well, do you know that every chair in Belize (at least where I went) is made of hard wood slats? Surely, I hear you say, they have cushions. Nope. I did try to MacGyver a solution using towels, but my American office chair loving butt will tell you I failed.

Am I using this as an excuse for not getting my full list of tasks done?

Yes. Yes, I am.

I did however, get a few more chapters of Becca rewritten and here’s the next one on time. Yea, me!!

Remember, as a Substack exclusive, you’re getting these chapters pre-final draft. Meaning before they’ve gone to my editor. So baby, there might be grammatical mistakes… and there might also be changes to the story—minor changes, based on your feedback—when this novel gets finalized.

Happy reading!

P.S. The trip was lovely!

TRIGGERS!!! This chapter: None, except for dealing with dating apps and the stress dating causes you!

Bound By Desire

Chapter 3

Most of the messages I received from men on this dating site were complimentary. I’d go so far as saying they went over-the-top on the flattery, and honestly, they began to sound routine. As I read the messages, I got the feeling they sender had written the same thing to every other woman they had contacted. So, Mr. Letusexplore’s message stuck out.

The next day when I got home from work, I found another message from him:

“What a beautiful name Becca is, although I don’t know if that is your real name. So many women on this site hide behind fake names and fake pictures.

I hope your day has been enjoyable. Mine, even though busy, started out on a nice note because of the return message I received from you.

As to the reason I do not have a picture of myself on my profile, I completely understand your concern. I can assure you, I’m not married nor stepping out behind a girlfriend’s back. That behavior is for cowards. My profession, which affords me a very comfortable lifestyle, is not the type that looks kindly on a person using an online dating site. Perception is everything in my world. My clients wouldn’t want their personal information on the internet for the world to view, and this perception extends to me and my private life as well. I’d be happy to forward you a few pictures of me to ease your concern.

John”

My reply was simple and to the point.
